Regular Season Round 5: Aschersleben - Wolmirstedt 74-68

There was a change at the Regionalliga leadership position after last games. Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Wolmirstedt (3-1). They were defeated by second ranked Aschersleben (4-1) 74-68 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Wolmirstedt. It was a key game for the top position in North. Aschersleben forced 20 Wolmirstedt turnovers. Italian-Slovenian center Davor Barovic (211-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and Romanian point guard Sebastian Ionescu (185-97) chipped in 16 points. Five Aschersleben players scored in double figures. Forward Maximilian Rockmann (198-88, college: UMKC) responded with 15 points and 5 rebounds and guard Philipp Lieser (194-89, college: Cent.Washington) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aschersleben keeps a position of North leader, which they share with Neustadt TSV and Eimsbuetteler. Wolmirstedt at the other side dropped to the fifth place with one game lost. They share the position with Goetting.ASC. They were replaced at the leadership position by Leitershofen. Wolmirstedt will play next round against strong Neustadt TSV trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Aschersleben will try to continue on its current victory against thirteenth ranked Weser Baskets in Neustadt.
