Regular Season Round 5: Deutzer - Herford 80-89

Very predictable result when second ranked Herford (6-2) defeated on the road 10th ranked Deutzer (2-6) 89-80 on Saturday. Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) stepped up and scored 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners and guard Omar Zemhoute (194-91) chipped in 18 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Center Lennart Boner (206) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and forward Philipp Pfeifer (196-97) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Deutzer players scored in double figures. Deutzer's coach Nils Mueller rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Herford maintains second place in West with 6-2 record having just four point less than leader Leitershofen, which they share with Ibbenbueren. Loser Deutzer dropped to the twelfth position with six games lost. Herford will face Leverkusen 2 (#8) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Deutzer will play against Hagen-Haspe (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
