Regular Season Round 3: Final Spor - Gemlik 98-85

There was no surprise in Bursa where Gemlik (0-3) was defeated by Final Spor (2-1) 98-85 on Saturday. Final Spor outrebounded Gemlik 42-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Gemlik was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American point guard Marlain Veal (175-96, college: SE Louisiana) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Serhat Ugur (192-85) chipped in 20 points and 9 assists. Five Final Spor players scored in double figures. Final Spor's coach Levent Erdogan allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Gary Johnson (198-88, college: Texas) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) added 25 points and 7 assists respectively. Final Spor will face Akhisar Bld (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gemlik will play against Manisa (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
