Regular Season Round 8: P.Zvaigzdes - Neptunas 77-86

The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Neptunas' (3-4) road victory over 7th ranked P.Zvaigzdes (2-5) 86-77 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-77. Neptunas looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by P.Zvaigzdes' players. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Zygimantas Janavicius (192-89, agency: Interperformances) who scored 13 points and 9 assists. International power forward Gytis Masiulis (206-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Neptunas' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Paulius Petrilevicius (200-91, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and Slovenian Miha Lapornik (193-93) added 11 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Five Neptunas and four P.Zvaigzdes players scored in double figures. Neptunas moved-up to fifth place. P.Zvaigzdes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Nevezis. Neptunas are looking forward to face higher ranked Prienai CBet (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. P.Zvaigzdes will play against Nevezis (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
