Regular Season Round 5: Giessen 46ers - EWE Baskets 83-68

Giessen 46ers has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked EWE Baskets (3-2) 83-68 on Sunday. Giessen 46ers made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center John Bryant (211-87, college: Santa Clara) stepped up and scored 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Brandon Thomas (198-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points. Four Giessen 46ers players scored in double figures. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and naturalized American guard Kevin McClain (188-96, college: Belmont) scored 12 points. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Giessen 46ers (1-3) left bottom position moving up to twelfth place, which they share with Ratiopharm. EWE Baskets at the other side keep the seventh position with two games lost. Giessen 46ers is looking forward to face higher ranked Braunschweig (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. EWE Baskets will play against the league's second-placed Crailsheim Merlins and will have a slim chance for a victory.
