Regular Season Round 9: Ereliai Mazeikiai - Ezerunas 64-78

There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Ereliai Mazeikiai (2-6) was defeated at home by fourteenth ranked Ezerunas (3-6) 78-64 on Thursday. Ezerunas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ereliai Mazeikiai's 30. They outrebounded Ereliai Mazeikiai 48-29 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ereliai Mazeikiai was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was swingman Rokas Jukonis (194-90) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Center Ignas Lukosius (202-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Mantvydas Staniulis (187-97) who recorded 15 points and 6 assists and guard Erikas Jakstys (188-95, college: Olney Central CC) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively. Ereliai Mazeikiai's coach Aloyzas Rudys tested eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ezerunas moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Delikatesas. Ereliai Mazeikiai lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with six games lost. Ezerunas will face higher ranked Taurages (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ereliai Mazeikiai will play against Gargzdu (#10) in Gargzdai and hope to win that game.
