There was no surprise when 11th ranked Loewen (1-6) lost to seventh ranked White Wings (4-3) in Hanau 71-80 on Saturday. White Wings made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when White Wings made 8 blocks. Loewen was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for Jonas Niedermanner (203-96) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Preston Beverly (201-96, college: PLNU) contributed with 15 points and 4 blocks for the winners. Point guard Maximilian Kuhle (184-91) answered with 28 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Robert Franklin (195-81, college: N.Mexico Highlands) added 6 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his seven free throws) in the effort for Loewen. White Wings moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Speyer and Fraport SKY II. Loewen lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with six games lost. White Wings will face Fraport Skyliners II (#5) in Frankfurt in the next round. Loewen will play at home against Elchingen (#3) and hope to win that game.
