Very expected game when 13th ranked Giessen 46ers (1-5) lost at home to eighth ranked SC Rasta Vechta (4-3) 87-79 on Saturday. SC Rasta Vechta dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Giessen 46ers' 26 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. SC Rasta Vechta looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a very good performance for American guard Ishmail Wainright (196-94, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Swiss forward Michael Kessens (206-91, college: FIU, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. SC Rasta Vechta's coach Pedro Calles used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center John Bryant (211-87, college: Santa Clara) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import forward Jordan Barnett (201-95, college: Missouri) added 20 points in the effort for Giessen 46ers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for SC Rasta Vechta. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with EWE Baskets and Wuerzburg. Loser Giessen 46ers keep the thirteenth position with five games lost. SC Rasta Vechta will face higher ranked Braunschweig (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Giessen 46ers will play against Mitteldeutscher BC (#17) and hope to win that game.
