Regular Season Round 5: Samsun - Gemlik 101-92

Samsun has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Gemlik (0-5) 101-92. Samsun players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American power forward Darian Townes (208-84, college: Arkansas) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and guard Cagdas Erdogan (188-88) accounted for 9 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists. Four Samsun players scored in double figures. American point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 assists and the other American import forward Gary Johnson (198-88, college: Texas) added 27 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) respectively for Gemlik in the defeat. Gemlik's coach Fatih Elbas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Samsun (1-4) left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with Duzce Bld. It was Gemlik's fifth loss in a row. Gemlik at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Ankara B.. Samsun will play against higher ranked Akhisar Bld (#11) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gemlik will play against Duzce Belediye (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
