Regular Season Round 5: Cluj Napoca - Timisoara 79-70

Date: November 9, 2019
Very expected game when 5th ranked Timisoara (2-3) lost on the road to leader Cluj Napoca (5-0) 79-70 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-9. But Timisoara won second period 23-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cluj Napoca won last quarter 26-19. Timisoara was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. Point guard Kerron Johnson (183-90, college: Belmont) orchestrated the victory by scoring 13 points and 7 assists. Swingman Patrick Richard (196-90, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Cluj Napoca players scored in double figures. Guard Troy Franklin (183-89, college: Coppin St.) answered with 22 points and guard Sherwood Brown (193-91, college: FGCU) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Timisoara. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cluj Napoca maintains first place in Nationala with 5-0 record. Loser Timisoara dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Cluj Napoca will face league's second-placed Craiova on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Timisoara will play against Oradea (#3) and hope to win that game.
