Regular Season Round 8: SumDU - Niko-Basket 87-69

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Niko-Basket (6-2) against sixth ranked SumDU (3-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Niko-Basket was defeated by SumDU in Sumy 87-69. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Niko-Basket. The game was mostly controlled by SumDU. Niko-Basket managed to win third quarter 20-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SumDU looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Niko-Basket's players. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Oleksandr Prokopenko (189-92) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and point guard Igor Starodub (187-97) who added 24 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Forward Vadim Zaplotinskiy (200-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Mark Bodnar (185-98) scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SumDU moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Lutsk Univ. Loser Niko-Basket dropped to the third position with two games lost. SumDU will meet league's second-placed Mariupol on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Niko-Basket will play against DYUSH-DOR and hope to secure a win.
