Regular Season Round 8: Vechta - Braunschweig 106-103

Important game to mention about took place in Vechta. Eighth ranked SC Rasta Vechta (5-3) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Braunschweig (4-3) 106-103 on Saturday evening. SC Rasta Vechta made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Braunschweig outrebounded SC Rasta Vechta 40-28 including a 27-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Braunschweig was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American guard Steve Vasturia (196-95, college: Notre Dame) who scored that evening 19 points and 8 assists and international power forward Philipp Herkenhoff (208-99, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) supported him with 20 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) by American power forward Scott Eatherton (206-91, college: Northeastern, agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for Braunschweig. Kostja Mushidi (196-98, agency: BeoBasket) added 20 points and 5 assists for the guests. Five SC Rasta Vechta and four Braunschweig players scored in double figures. Braunschweig's coach Pete Strobl rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SC Rasta Vechta have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with EWE Baskets and Wuerzburg. Braunschweig at the other side dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. SC Rasta Vechta will play against higher ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Braunschweig will have a break next round.
