There was an upset in Ulm where 4th placed Fraport Skyliners II (5-4) was outplayed by ninth ranked OrangeAcademy (4-5) 87-58 on Saturday. OrangeAcademy outrebounded Fraport Skyliners II 36-19 including a 24-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when OrangeAcademy made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Christoph Philipps (203-98) who scored 16 points. Power forward Nils Mittmann (201-79) chipped in 15 points. Four OrangeAcademy players scored in double figures. OrangeAcademy's coach Anton Gavel felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Nigel Pruitt (201-94, college: Kennesaw St.) who recorded 15 points and 5 rebounds and center Cosmo Gruehn (204-98) added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively. OrangeAcademy moved-up to eighth place in South, which they share with Giessen 46ers II. Loser Fraport Skyliners II keeps the fourth position with four games lost. OrangeAcademy will face higher ranked Elchingen (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fraport Skyliners II will play against Speyer and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
