Regular Season Round 14: Zalgiris II - Ereliai Mazeikiai 97-98

A very interesting game took place in Kaunas. It ended with only one-point home defeat of higher ranked Zalgiris II (7-6) to fourteenth ranked Ereliai Mazeikiai (4-9) 98-97 on Saturday evening. Strangely Zalgiris II outrebounded Ereliai Mazeikiai 39-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Rokas Stankevicius (-0) saved the victory by scoring 27 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Mantvydas Staniulis (187-97) contributed with 22 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Ereliai Mazeikiai players scored in double figures. Forward Erikas Venskus (205-0) replied with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and Vitalijus Kozys (201-99) added 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Zalgiris II. Zalgiris II's coach Arvydas Gronskis tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Ereliai Mazeikiai moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Silales Lusis. Zalgiris II at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Ereliai Mazeikiai's next round opponent will be higher ranked Vytis (#10) in Sakiai and it may be quite challenging game. Zalgiris II will play on the road against Ezerunas (#8) in Moletai and hope to win that game.
