Regular Season Round 9: Itzehoe - Schwelm EN 90-65

Date: November 16, 2019
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Itzehoe. Third ranked Itzehoe faced second-best SG Schwelmer Baskets. Host Itzehoe (6-3) smashed guests from Schwelm (7-2) 90-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of SG Schwelmer Baskets. They outrebounded SG Schwelmer Baskets 44-31 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Itzehoe shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. American power forward Chris Hooper (198-91, college: St.Francis, NY) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Dutch forward Chaed Wellian (204-92, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds. Four Itzehoe players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Bulgarian guard Milen Zahariev (190-92) with 17 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized Russian forward Nikita Khartchenkov (200-87) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Itzehoe have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place in North with 6-3 record behind leader Wuerzburg, which they share with Muenster. SG Schwelmer Baskets at the other side keep the second position with two games lost. Itzehoe will meet SparkassenStars (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against Muenster (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
