Regular Season Round 7: Merkezefendi - Gemlik 91-92

Gemlik's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Merkezefendi, where they edged Merkezefendi (3-4) 92-91 on Friday. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Diante Watkins (174-90, college: Robert Morris) who led the winners and scored 35 points (!!!) and 9 assists. His fellow American import forward Gary Johnson (198-88, college: Texas) accounted for 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Jamaican center Jerome Jordan (215-86, college: Tulsa) came up with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Ukrainian Olexandr Mishula (192-92) added 15 points and 7 assists respectively for Merkezefendi in the defeat. Four Merkezefendi players scored in double figures. Merkezefendi's coach Sahin Atesdagli tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Gemlik (1-6) left bottom position moving up to fourteenth place, which they share with Samsun. Merkezefendi at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eleventh position with four games lost. They share it with Yalova Bld. Gemlik will meet at home higher ranked Bornova Bld (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Merkezefendi will play against Akhisar Bld and hope to secure a win.
