Date: November 23, 2019
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Itzehoe (6-4) against eighth ranked SparkassenStars (5-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Itzehoe was defeated by SparkassenStars in Bochum 93-78. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Itzehoe. SparkassenStars forced 19 Itzehoe turnovers. Strangely Itzehoe outrebounded SparkassenStars 44-29 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Itzehoe's players. British guard Conner Washington (183-92) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the effort and guard Lars Kamp (187-96) supported him with 27 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds by American power forward Chris Hooper (198-91, college: St.Francis, NY) did not help to save the game for Itzehoe. Point guard Flavio Stueckemann (188-85) added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for lost side. Four SparkassenStars and five Itzehoe players scored in double figures. Itzehoe's coach Patrick Elzie rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SparkassenStars have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place in North. Loser Itzehoe keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with Muenster and Bernau. SparkassenStars will meet higher ranked Muenster (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Itzehoe will play against RSV Eintracht and hope to secure a win.
