Regular Season Round 7: Steaua B. - Cluj Napoca 64-88
Date: November 23, 2019
Everything went according to plan in Bucuresti where leader Cluj Napoca (8-0) outscored 5th ranked Steaua B. (3-4) 88-64 on Saturday. The game without a history. Cluj Napoca led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Cluj Napoca outrebounded Steaua B. 43-26 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Croatian center Darko Planinic (211-90, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds. American point guard Kerron Johnson (183-90, college: Belmont) helped adding 19 points. Four Cluj Napoca players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Will Davis-II (203-92, college: UC Irvine) responded with 13 points and 5 rebounds and Serbian point guard Strahinja Jovanovic (185-96, agency: BeoExcell) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cluj Napoca maintains first place in Nationala with 8-0 record. Steaua B. at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Cluj Napoca will face CS Dinamo Bucuresti (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Steaua B. will play against the league's second-placed Oradea and hope to win that game.
