Very expected game in Lisbona where 10th ranked G.S.C. (1-6) was defeated by sixth ranked Benfica (4-2) 87-69 on Sunday. Benfica forced 21 G.S.C. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Destinee Young (185-95, college: ODU) who led her team to a victory scoring 20 points and 8 rebounds. International forward Mariana Silva (184-99) helped adding 21 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Benfica's coach Andre Cardoso used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Morgan Batey (178-94, college: Vanderbilt) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and guard Filipa Marques (179-94) scored 17 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Benfica moved-up to fourth place, which they share with AD Vagos. G.S.C. lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with six games lost. They share it with Ovarense. Benfica will meet GDESSA (#6) in the next round. G.S.C. will play against Carnide (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
