Regular Season Round 11: Deutsch-Wagram - Blackbirds 63-66

Twelfth-ranked Deutsch-Wagram (0-11) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Blackbirds (9-2) on Sunday. The visitors from Jennersdorf managed to secure only three-point victory 66-63. However their fans expected much easier game. Deutsch-Wagram was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 19-11 charge of Blackbirds, which allowed them to win the game. Blackbirds outrebounded Deutsch-Wagram 38-27 including 24 on the defensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Deutsch-Wagram helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Croatian center Marko Moric (205-81) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Christoph Astl (186-88) contributed with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Point guard Simon Marek (180-1) answered with 15 points and 4 assists and point guard Lukas Hofer (182-92) added 15 points in the effort for Deutsch-Wagram. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Deutsch-Wagram's coach Hannes Quirgst tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Blackbirds have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-2 record. Newly promoted Deutsch-Wagram still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Blackbirds are looking forward to face Furstenfeld Panthers (#5) on the road in the next round. Deutsch-Wagram will play against Flames (#6) in Vienna and hopes to get finally their first victory.
