The game between 13th ranked Barreirense (3-8) and second ranked Sporting (9-1) in Barreiro on Friday ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Lisbona outscored Barreirense 93-45. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Barreirense. Sporting dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Barreirense's 32. Sporting forced 20 Barreirense turnovers and outrebounded them 46-27 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward James Ellisor (195-90, college: Bemidji St.) nailed 17 points and 4 steals for the winning side and international point guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) accounted for 14 points. Five Sporting players scored in double figures. Sporting's coach Luis Magalhaes felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Jabari McGhee (201-94, college: Austin Peay) came up with 21 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import center Fuquan Niles (211-95, college: Cent.Washington) added 3 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Barreirense in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sporting. Despite that victory Sporting went down to third position due to points difference. Barreirense at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the twelfth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Ovarense. Sporting will meet at home Oliveirense (#4) in the next round. Barreirense will play against Illiabum (#11) in Ilhavo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
