Regular Season Round 9: Chernomorets - Academic 84-86

A very close game took place in Burgas between Academic and Chernomorets. Fifth ranked Academic (5-4) got a very close victory on the road over 9th ranked Chernomorets (1-8). Academic managed to escape with a 2-point win 86-84 on Saturday evening. Academic looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Point guard Lachezar Dimitrov (187-99) nailed 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and power forward Andrey Ivanov (206-96) accounted for 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Academic's coach Georgi Davidov allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Blake Reynolds (201, college: Yale) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and Serbian center Milenko Veljkovic (217-95) added 18 points and 19 rebounds respectively for Chernomorets in the defeat. Five Academic and four Chernomorets players scored in double figures. Academic have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 5-4 record. Chernomorets lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. They share it with Yambol. Academic will meet Cherno More (#7) in the next round. Chernomorets will play against the league's leader Balkan and hope to win that game.
