Regular Season Round 9: Politekhnik - Novomoskovsk 80-78

Eighth-ranked Novomoskovsk (1-8) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Politekhnik (6-1) in Kharkiv on Saturday. Politekhnik managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But Novomoskovsk won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Politekhnik forced 20 Novomoskovsk turnovers. The best player for the winners was Sergiy Kuznetsov (203-97) who scored 25 points. Guard Yevheniy Savchenko (191-97) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Politekhnik's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Ilya Kabatsiura (195-96) who recorded 24 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Andriy Kobets (191-93) added 14 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Four Politekhnik and five Novomoskovsk players scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Politekhnik. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Khimik-2. Novomoskovsk lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Ch.Mavpy 2. Politekhnik will again meet at home Novomoskovsk (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Novomoskovsk will have a break next round.
