Regular Season Round 9: Marijampoles - Kretingos SM 105-102

Marijampoles has finally registered their first victory this season after seven consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Kretingos SM (1-7) 105-102 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 31-20 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Kretingos SM outrebounded Marijampoles 41-25 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Kretingos SM was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Aleksas Mackevicius (-2) stepped up and scored 30 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and point guard Mantvydas Kalinauskas (185-3) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Marijampoles' coach Aivaras Zibuda allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Tadas Budrys (-2) with 31 points and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and Rokas Zilinskis (-2) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Marijampoles left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Kretingos SM. Marijampoles will face Pasvalio (#11) in Pasvalys in the next round.
