The game between closely ranked teams ended with twelfth ranked Rendsburg's (2-10) home victory over bottom-ranked Weser Baskets (0-11) 96-71 on Saturday. Rendsburg dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Weser Baskets' 24. Rendsburg forced 24 Weser Baskets turnovers and outrebounded them 48-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Weser Baskets' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Garrett Jefferson (190-91, college: CBU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 assists and 7 steals and Lithuanian center Paulius Sakinis (203-95, college: Peru St., agency: Players Group) who added 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) during the contest. Rendsburg's coach Bjarne Homfeldt felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Montenegrin Mersudin Kosuta with 13 points and 8 rebounds and forward Lars Kaniok (195-80) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rendsburg maintains twelfth position in North with 2-10 record. Newly promoted Weser Baskets still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Rendsburg will have a break next round. Weser Baskets will play at home against Langenhagen (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.
