Regular Season Round 10: Academica - Sanjoanense 91-86

There was a small surprise in Coimbra where tenth ranked Academica (5-5) beat 7th ranked Sanjoanense (5-5) 91-86 on Saturday. Academica dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Sanjoanense's 32. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Academica made 10 blocks. American guard Malcolm Richardson (185-94, college: Florida St. Jkv CC) fired a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Center Krasimir Pereira (195-95) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Eduardo Guimaraes (185-92) produced 20 points and 8 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) and Emanuel Sa added 19 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Sanjoanense players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Academica moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Sanjoanense. Academica will meet Benfica B (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Sanjoanense will play against Dragon Force (#10) and hope to secure a win.
