Very predictable result when third ranked ALBA Berlin (8-2) defeated on the road 9th ranked BBC Bayreuth (4-6) 82-78 on Sunday. ALBA Berlin made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 BBC Bayreuth turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Niels Giffey (200-91, college: UConn) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 6 rebounds. American Luke Sikma (203-89, college: Portland) helped adding 14 points and 5 rebounds. ALBA Berlin's coach Aito Garcia Reneses used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Bryce Alford (190-94, college: UCLA) responded with 18 points and forward Lukas Meisner (203-95, college: Columbia) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Five ALBA Berlin and four BBC Bayreuth players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for ALBA Berlin. They maintain third place with 8-2 record having four points less than leader Bayern. Loser BBC Bayreuth dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. ALBA Berlin will face Hamburg (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. BBC Bayreuth will play against the league's second-placed EnBW Ludwigsburg (#2) and hope to win that game.
