Regular Season Round 14: Zalgiris - Rytas 78-72

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kaunas. Top-ranked Zalgiris faced second-ranked Rytas. Host Zalgiris (13-0) defeated guests from Vilnius (8-5) 78-72. It looked good early as Rytas took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 6 points. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) orchestrated the victory by scoring 8 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Australian center Jock Landale (211-95, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. International forward Eimantas Bendzius (203-90) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds and international power forward Martynas Echodas (205-97) added 9 points in the effort for Rytas. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Zalgiris have an impressive 13-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 13-0 record. Rytas at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Neptunas. Zalgiris will play against Siauliai (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rytas will play against P.Zvaigzdes (#7) in Pasvalys and hopes to get back on the winning track.
