Regular Season Round 9: Shumen - Chavdar 115-82

Top ranked Chavdar (7-2) recorded its second loss on the court of second ranked Shumen on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Shumen 115-82. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Chavdar. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Shumen dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Chavdar's 30. They outrebounded Chavdar 51-30 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Shumen looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Chavdar's players. The best player for the winners was swingman Krasimir Dimitrov (195-98) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds. Power forward Kiril Kirilov (205-94) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Shumen's coach zvonko Papak felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Tomislav Minkov (195-1) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Nikolay Marinov (192-99) added 19 points respectively. Five Shumen and four Chavdar players scored in double figures. Shumen have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 5-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Chavdar. Chavdar at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Shumen are looking forward to face Slavia (#3) in Sofia in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Chavdar will play at home against CSKA and is hoping to win this game.
