Regular Season Round 7: Cherkasy - Khimik 74-81

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Cherkasy's (6-6) home loss to fourth ranked Khimik (7-4) 74-81 on Sunday. Cherkasy was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-17 charge of Khimik, which allowed them to win the game. They made 28-of-33 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 7 blocks. Cherkasy was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Lewis Sullivan (201-95, college: UAB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Isaiah Williams (188-95, college: Georgia St.) helped adding 20 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American forward Dion Wright (201-93, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with 6 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Oleksandr Kolchenko (195-88) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Loser Cherkasy keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Khimik will face Zaporizhye (#7) in Zaporozhye in the next round. Cherkasy will play on the road against Kyiv Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
