Regular Season Round 12: Buyukcekmece - Galatasaray 77-87

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Buyukcekmece (3-9) was defeated at home by sixth ranked Galatasaray (8-4) 87-77. Galatasaray dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Buyukcekmece's 48. Galatasaray forced 19 Buyukcekmece turnovers. Strangely Buyukcekmece outrebounded Galatasaray 43-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Buyukcekmece's players. The winners were led by American forward Alex Poythress (203-93, college: Kentucky) who scored that evening 21 points and 7 rebounds and New Zealand guard Tai Webster (193-95, college: Nebraska) supported him with 13 points and 9 assists. Galatasaray's coach Ertugrul Erdogan allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds by American center Robert Upshaw (213-94, college: Washington) did not help to save the game for Buyukcekmece. His fellow American import Andrew Andrews (188-93, college: Washington) added 19 points and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galatasaray moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bandirma. Buyukcekmece at the other side keeps the fourteenth position with nine games lost. Galatasaray's next round opponent will be Bursaspor (#7) at home. Buyukcekmece will play against Afyon Bld (#13) in Afyonkarahisar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
