Regular Season Round 13: Vaerlose - Naestved 83-100

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Vaerlose (4-8) against fourth ranked Naestved (8-4) on Sunday night. Host Vaerlose unexpectedly was defeated by in Vaerlose 83-100. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vaerlose. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 100-83. Naestved dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Vaerlose's 40. They outrebounded Vaerlose 37-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naestved looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Dominican-Austrian swingman Carlos Mateo (198-92) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winners and American Evan Fitzner (208-96, college: Indiana) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Fitzner is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American power forward Evan Fisher (206-96, college: Siena) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Asbjorn Nerlov (197-98) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Four Vaerlose players scored in double figures. Vaerlose's coach Susie Heede-Andersen rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Naestved have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 8-4 record. Vaerlose at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Naestved will meet higher ranked Bakken (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vaerlose will play against the league's second-placed Randers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
