Regular Season Round 16: Lietkabelis - Siauliai 88-70

Not a big story in a game in Panevezys where 8th ranked Siauliai (4-10) was defeated by third ranked Lietkabelis (9-5) 88-70. Siauliai was ahead by 7 points at the halftime before a 48-23 second half run of Lietkabelis. Lietkabelis had a 30-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Lietkabelis players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by swingman Tomas Dimsa (198-94) who scored that evening 23 points and Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: BeoBasket) supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Four Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 4 assists by power forward Rokas Gustys (206-94, college: Hofstra) did not help to save the game for Siauliai. Center Benas Griciunas (213-94, college: EWU) added 14 points for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lietkabelis maintains third position with 9-5 record having seven points less than leader Zalgiris. Siauliai lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. Lietkabelis will play against league's second-placed Rytas in Vilnius in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Siauliai will play on the road against Prienai CBet (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
