There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Tuebingen II (4-10) won against at home higher ranked Giessen Pointers (6-8) 85-80 on Sunday. Tuebingen II forced 23 Giessen Pointers turnovers. Strangely Giessen Pointers outrebounded Tuebingen II 48-35 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Giessen Pointers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Nico Hihn orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Point guard Daniel Zacek (180-1) contributed with 26 points for the winners. American forward Tyrell Sturdivant (201-95, college: Stony Brook) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 18 rebounds and point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) added 27 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Giessen Pointers. Four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Tuebingen II moved-up to thirteenth place in South-West, which they share with Kronberg. Loser Giessen Pointers keep the eighth position with eight games lost. Tuebingen II will face higher ranked Fellbach (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
