Regular Season Round 9: Mykolaiv - Khimik 72-74

The most exciting game of round 9 in the Superleague took place in Mykolaiv. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Mykolaiv (5-9) to third ranked Khimik (9-5) 74-72 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Mykolaiv. Mykolaiv trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 24-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-74 at the end of the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 7 blocks. It was a good game for American forward Lewis Sullivan (201-95, college: UAB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Isaiah Williams (188-95, college: Georgia St.) contributed with 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. American point guard QJ Peterson (183-94, college: VMI) answered with 28 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Vitaliy Zotov (188-97) added 14 points in the effort for Mykolaiv. Khimik have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains third place with 9-5 record having just one point less than leader Dnipro. Mykolaiv at the other side keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Khimik are looking forward to face league's leader Dnipro at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mykolaiv will play against Cherkasy (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
