Regular Season Round 12: Chernomorets - Akademik Bultex 84-81

A very interesting game took place in Burgas. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Academik Plovdiv (6-6) to ninth ranked Chernomorets (2-10) 84-81 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Academik Plovdiv. They outrebounded Academik Plovdiv 41-30 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard Jamaal King (178, college: St.Francis, PA) who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. The other American import forward Blake Reynolds (201, college: Yale) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Shakir Smith (185-92, college: Adams St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists and international Vasil Bachev (195-92, college: Cuesta JC) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Academik Plovdiv's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Chernomorets moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Spartak Pleven. Academik Plovdiv at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Chernomorets' next round opponent will be higher ranked Beroe (#3) in Stara Zagora and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Academik Plovdiv will play at home against Academic and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
