Regular Season Round 18: Karlsruhe PS - Trier 99-76

Date: January 4, 2020
We should mention about the upset which took place in Karlsruhe, where higher ranked Gladiators (10-7) were outleveled in a road game by fourteenth ranked Lions (6-11) 99-76. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Gladiators. Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Gladiators' 32. Lions forced 20 Gladiators turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Gladiators' players. 25 personal fouls committed by Gladiators helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard KC Ross-Miller (183-91, college: Auburn) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 assists to lead the effort and naturalized American guard Daniel Norl (188-95, college: Omaha) supported him with 23 points. Five Lions players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds by forward Stefan Ilzhoefer (202-95) did not help to save the game for Gladiators. American guard Jordan Geist (188-97, college: Missouri) added 22 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lions moved-up to thirteenth place. Gladiators at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Lions' next round opponent will be higher ranked Nuernberg (#6) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gladiators will play against Ehingen/Urspringschule and hope to win that game.
