Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Crailsheim Merlins and 6th ranked Brose Baskets had identical 8-5 record. This time Crailsheim Merlins used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Bamberg 73-69 on Saturday night. It was a great evening for American guard Jeremy Morgan (196-95, college: N.Iowa) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Javontae Hawkins (196-93, college: Fordham) helped adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Darion Atkins (203-92, college: Virginia) with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Brose Baskets' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Crailsheim Merlins. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with EWE Baskets. Loser Brose Baskets dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Vechta. Crailsheim Merlins will meet at home Hamburg (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Brose Baskets will play against SC Rasta Vechta (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
