Regular Season Round 12: Timisoara - Cluj Napoca 89-92

Fourth-ranked Timisoara (5-7) gave a tough game to first ranked Cluj Napoca (11-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Cluj Napoca managed to secure only three-point victory 92-89. However their fans expected easier game. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 3 points. Cluj Napoca dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Timisoara's 32. They outrebounded Timisoara 37-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Patrick Richard (196-90, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Lithuanian forward Donatas Tarolis (203-94) who added 25 points and 4 assists during the contest. Cluj Napoca's coach Dusko Vujosevic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Troy Franklin (183-89, college: Coppin St.) with 23 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import guard Sherwood Brown (193-91, college: FGCU) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Four Cluj Napoca and five Timisoara players scored in double figures. Cluj Napoca maintains first position in Nationala with 11-1 record. Timisoara at the other side keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Cluj Napoca are looking forward to face Craiova (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Timisoara will play against the league's second-placed Oradea and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
