The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Benfica as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Benfica smashed 9th ranked Barreirense in Lisbona 101-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Barreirense. Benfica dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Barreirense's 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Barreirense's players. It was a great evening for the former international Betinho Gomes (202-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (204-88, college: GWU) helped adding 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Benfica players scored in double figures. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Jabari McGhee (201-94, college: Austin Peay) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds and the other American import guard Kendall Jacks (193, college: Wayne St., NE) scored 29 points. Benfica (14-1) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Sporting. Newly promoted Barreirense keeps the ninth place with ten games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Barreirense will play next round against Lusitania trying to get back on the winning streak. Benfica will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Oliveirense in Oliveira.
