Tenth-ranked G.S.C. (2-9) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked GDESSA (8-5) in Guifoes on Sunday. The visitors from Barreiro managed to secure only two-point victory 59-57. However their fans expected much easier game. Strangely G.S.C. outrebounded GDESSA 37-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. Senegalese forward Aya Traore (186-83, college: Purdue) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Ana Faustino (166-1) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. At the losing side American guard Morgan Batey (178-94, college: Vanderbilt) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and international Joana Cruz (176-92) scored 8 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. GDESSA maintains fourth place with 8-5 record. G.S.C. lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. GDESSA will meet at home Carnide (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. G.S.C. will play against CAB Madeira in Funchal and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
