Regular Season Round 13: Marijampoles - Sostines 70-72

A very close game took place in Marijampole between Sostines and Marijampoles. Fifth ranked Sostines (6-6) got a very close victory on the road over 11th ranked Marijampoles (2-10). Sostines managed to escape with a 2-point win 72-70 on Tuesday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Marijampoles was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Sostines forced 23 Marijampoles turnovers. Guard Julius Vaitkus (190-2) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Edvin Volodkovic (-2) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Four Sostines players scored in double figures. At the losing side Ignas Antanaitis (195-2) responded with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Aleksas Mackevicius (-2) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Marijampoles' coach Aivaras Zibuda rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sostines moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tornado KM. Marijampoles lost their third game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with ten games lost. Sostines will meet at home Zalgiris II (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Marijampoles will play against the league's second-placed Panevezio and hope to secure a win.
