Regular Season Round 19: Zalgiris - Nevezis 89-84

LKL top team - Zalgiris (17-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat ninth ranked Nevezis (5-13) in Kaunas 89-84. The hosts were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 27-15 last quarter charge of Nevezis cut the lead to 89-84 at the end of the game. Zalgiris made 23-of-29 charity shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Nevezis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Thomas Walkup (193-92, college: SF Austin) who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. International center Martinas Geben (208-94, college: Notre Dame) contributed with 9 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Point guard Laurynas Beliauskas (192-97) answered with 28 points and 5 assists and DR Congolese center Viny Okouo (215-97) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Nevezis. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-1 record. Nevezis at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Siauliai (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Nevezis will play against Dzukija in Alytus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
