The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Afyon's (0-17) road loss to ninth ranked Arel Univ (5-12) in Istanbul 44-126 on Saturday. Arel Univ held Afyon to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 55.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Arel Univ forced 29 Afyon turnovers and outrebounded them 65-32 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 47 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Afyon's players. Safak Yurdakulu (-1) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Cenk Aydin (-2) contributed with 27 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all thirteen shots !!!) for the winners. Four Arel Univ players scored in double figures. Furkan Ozcan (-1) answered with 11 points and 4 assists and Veli Yildiz (-2) added 8 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Afyon. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arel Univ moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Pinar Karsiyaka. Afyon lost their seventeenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 17 games lost. Arel Univ will face higher ranked Turk Telekom (#5) in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Afyon will play at home against the league's second-placed Fenerbahce (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
