Regular Season Round 14: Kretingos SM - Panevezio 93-87

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Panevezio (9-2) against ninth ranked Kretingos SM (6-7) on Wednesday night. Visiting Panevezio was defeated by Kretingos SM in a tough game in Kretinga 87-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Panevezio. It looked good early as Panevezio took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Kretingos SM had a 28-18 second period charge getting the lead and Panevezio was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-93. Kretingos SM forced 21 Panevezio turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Panevezio was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Rokas Zilinskis (-2) had a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Tadas Budrys (198-2) chipped in 19 points and 18 rebounds during the contest. Titas Matevicius (-2) responded with 29 points and center Eirinas Pilkauskas (197-2) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Panevezio's coach Zydrunas Valuckis rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Kretingos SM have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Panevezio at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Kretingos SM will play against league's leader V.Knasiaus KM in Klaipeda in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Panevezio will play on the road against Zalgiris II in Kaunas and hopes to get back on the winning track.
