The most surprising game was a loss of Gmunden Swans (15-4) on the court of Raiffeisen Flyers Wels on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Raiffeisen Flyers Wels 92-85. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-16. But Gmunden Swans won third quarter 28-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gmunden Swans' 34. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels forced 19 Gmunden Swans turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American guard Cameron DeLaney (193-95, college: SHSU) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and the former international Davor Lamesic (205-83, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels' coach Sebastian Waser used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international point guard Daniel Friedrich (181-92) responded with 20 points and the former international forward Toni Blazan (197-92, agency: Mansfield and Associates) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Raiffeisen Flyers Wels are looking forward to face Kapfenberg Bulls (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gmunden Swans will play against UBC St. Poelten and are hoping to win this game.
