Regular Season Round 21: Jena - Schalke 88-77

There was no surprise when 15th ranked Schalke (6-14) was defeated on the road by third ranked Science City Jena (13-6) 88-77 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was naturalized Polish swingman Dennis Nawrocki (193-92) who scored 19 points. American forward Justin Leon (203-95, college: Florida) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Shavar Newkirk (183-96, college: St.Joseph's) who recorded 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Johannes Joos (206-95) added 7 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Science City Jena maintains third place with 13-6 record having seven points less than leader Chemnitz. Loser Schalke dropped to the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Science City Jena will face league's second-placed Eisbaeren Bremerhaven on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Schalke will play against Walter Tigers (#10) and hope to win that game.
