There was no surprise when 9th ranked ALBA Berlin (3-7) was defeated at home by third ranked B.Loewen (8-3) 83-66 on Saturday. B.Loewen outrebounded ALBA Berlin 41-26 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for B.Loewen especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 75.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Porsche Poole (172-89, college: Michigan St.) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The other American import point guard Kristina Puthoff-King (180-92, college: Richmond) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Poole is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four B.Loewen players scored in double figures. Lena Gohlisch (173-93) produced 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international swingman Ireti Amojo (177-90, college: WSU) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. ALBA Berlin's coach Cristo Cabrera rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. B.Loewen have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Opladen. Loser ALBA Berlin keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. B.Loewen will face ChemCats Chemnitz (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ALBA Berlin will play against Panthers Osn. in Osnabrueck and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
