Regular Season Round 15: Povoa - Sanjoanense 91-73

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Sanjoanense (7-8) was defeated on the road by second ranked Povoa (12-3) 91-73 on Saturday. It was a great evening for guard Rui Coelho (191-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points. The former international point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) helped adding 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Four Povoa players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Silvio Rodrigues (184-92) with 20 points and American forward Torrance Johnson (198, college: Purdue NW, agency: Interperformances) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Povoa. Newly promoted Povoa maintains second place with 12-3 record having just three points less than leader Imortal. Loser Sanjoanense dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Povoa will meet Sampaense (#6) in the next round. Sanjoanense will play against Benfica B (#12) in Lisbon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
