Fifteenth-ranked Hamburg (3-12) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (10-5) on Sunday. Crailsheim Merlins managed to secure only three-point victory 101-98. However their fans expected much easier game. Crailsheim Merlins looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The winners were led by Slovenian point guard Jan Span (189-92, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored that evening 17 points and 6 assists and American forward Aaron Jones (206-93, college: Ole Miss) supported him with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Even 21 points and 6 assists by the former international center Bogdan Radosavljevic (213-93) did not help to save the game for Hamburg. The former international point guard Heiko Schaffartzik (183-84) added 21 points and 5 assists for lost side. Four Crailsheim Merlins and five Hamburg players scored in double figures. Crailsheim Merlins have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with EWE Baskets. Hamburg lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Telekom Bsk. Crailsheim Merlins will meet higher ranked ALBA Berlin (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Hamburg will play against s Oliver Baskets (#7) and hope to secure a win.
